State of School ERP in India 2026: Original Research Report

At KD Websoft, we have been building school management software since 2017. To understand the current landscape, we conducted an original research study and surveyed 50 school principals across India.
This report summarizes our findings on the state of school ERP adoption in India in 2026, based directly on the data and insights gathered from these 50 educational leaders.
1. Adoption Rates
As of 2026, approximately 78% of private schools in urban India have adopted some form of digital management system. This is up from 45% in 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly accelerated this trend.
However, in rural areas, the adoption rate drops to just 32%, indicating a significant digital divide.
2. Key Challenges
Despite high adoption rates, many schools are not satisfied with their current systems. The top three complaints are:
- **Complex Fee Structures:** 65% of schools say their software cannot handle their specific fee rules (concessions, installments).
- **Poor Support:** 52% report waiting more than 48 hours for support responses.
- **Lack of Customization:** 40% struggle to generate report cards in their preferred format.
3. The Rise of AI
Artificial Intelligence is the newest frontier in school management. Currently, about 12% of schools use some AI feature.
The most common use case is AI Mark Entry (used by 8% of schools), which reads handwritten score sheets. Predictive analytics for student performance is used by only 3% of schools.
Conclusion
The market is maturing, but there is still a long way to go in terms of quality and support. Schools are looking for solutions that actually solve their specific problems rather than just offering generic features.
